Our story

About Ojamma

At Ojamma, we believe food carries memory, culture, and identity. Every ingredient has a story, every recipe connects generations, and every creator helps keep the culture moving forward.

Africa is not one kitchen. Neither is the Caribbean. Ojamma exists so that richness is easier to find, shop, share, and cook.

The Congo Basin is one of the richest food landscapes on earth: river fish, cassava leaves, palm, chili, and the slow pots that turn them into a gathering. This is where Ojamma begins.

Founder origins

Before Ojamma, there was Congo.

The founder’s story does not start in a startup. It starts in the Democratic Republic of Congo: river, market, family pot, and a teenager who left without leaving the table behind.

The heart of Africa

Gerard Kasemba was born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a country at the center of the continent, named with the great river that cuts through it.

The Congo Basin holds rainforest, river, savanna, and some of the most generous growing ground in the world. Cassava, plantain, palm, chili, groundnut, and freshwater fish are not specialties there. They are everyday life.

Languages fill the markets: Lingala, Kikongo, Tshiluba, Swahili, French, and many more. Food is how those worlds sit at the same table.

How that origin became Ojamma

Walk the path. Each step is still in the product: markets, recipes, creators, and a promise to bring home within reach.

01 · Congo

Born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where food is memory, language, and gathering.

At its core, Ojamma is about bringing home within reach and being a place where this culture can be experienced, supported, shared, and carried forward.
